New Competition Criteria
NSWFA has adopted a new strategy for developing floorball, that being that for the first time there will be criteria to be met for entry into the mens Elite Series. To gain entry into the NSW Mens Elite Series the club must have either one of the below:
1. A women's team as well as a mens team
2. A mixed team as well as a mens team
3. A social comp that the club is organising
The final decision on entry will rest with NSWFA and be judged based in the best interests of developing the sport.

Australian Sports Commission & Australian Olympic Commission
To the greater Floorball Community in NSW
I wish to inform you all of a number of meetings that I had along with the President of the Australian Floorball Association with the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) and the Australian Olympic Commission (AOC) in recent weeks.
With the announcement that Floorball received full recognition by the International Olympic Committee in July 2011, it is important that the relevant government bodies are engaged so that they are aware of floorball. With this in mind Steve King and I visited the ASC in Canberra a few weeks ago discuss the process and requirements of applying for funding to develop the sport.
The ASC provided an overview of how the application process worked and the relevant requirements needed to have a successful opportunity to receive funding. With 95 sports usually applying the ASC can only supply a form of funding to about 50, of which much goes to sports that have a reasonable chance of international success. While floorball has a way to go with this the ASC did give us what they believe is the main criteria for our sport at our level, this is simply to get our numbers up and get more people playing the sport. Additionally, focus will be on sports that achieve results with specific programs and/or plans to be measured, such as strategic plans. Finally the connection with the State Department of Sports and Recreation is another avenue for the sport to be introduced in which I will be following up.
The AOC meeting was more of an introduction in order for floorball to apply to be a member of the AOC. Whole being a member does not open any funding doors specifically, it does provide a leap on sports that are not a member and therefore have not achieved full olympic recognition.
In summary the most important thing for all of us is to get numbers playing the sport and increase membership (official membership). The NSWFA strategic plan is vital as this is our measurement tool on how we are progressing against our growth strategy and I urge you all to keep up the great work in developing the sport.
Kind regards Jason Cowland

2011-2012 Season Update
To all,
Please note that over the course of the last few months we have had extreme difficulty with venues, to the point, that we lost a venue due to futsal coming in. We have managed to get the venue back but only due to a delay in the futsal competition. Additionally the usual venue we have played at (Hurstville) are unable to provide the times we need for the competition and therefore we reserved a new venue at Riverwood with a proper floorball floor.
Over the last few weeks we have been in constant discussion with this venue as they (after they provided the green light) advised us that we can now only have the venue between 8-11am every second week, until they sort something out with basketball. I hope you can all understand that we have had more important issues (such as the venue) to sort out while trying to accommodate all requests.
The focus needed to be on a venue whom will support us and the game and we have finally secured a new venue (only this morning at 10am) to lock in the season, in which we have been discussing with them for about 3-4 weeks. Up until today we were on the verge of no venue that can accommodate us, please note the basic details below:
- The season will commence on Saturday 29th October - The new venue is located in Mascot a short drive from the M5 (www.allsortsindoorsports.com.au) - The venue will be marking the floor for floorball with permanent marks - Entrance fee for non-players or staff is $4 per day - They have been extremely helpful in ensuring we are locked in - We should have the ability to have a full size rink with heaps of space around the court - The floor is not polished floorboards and will suit floorball - The draft fixture allows for matches every second week and is planned to finish early April - We have had to allow for Elite and Mixed and the venue is booked from 8am-5pm every second Saturday (with one exception due to venue close) - The court costs are higher but we should be able to reduce fees as we have less matches - We will issue a info pack next week, with fixture, fees, guidelines, etc |

Presidents Report AFO 2011
Dear NSWFA members, clubs and regions
Firstly a huge congratulations to all the NSW teams whom took part in the AFO for 2011, with 5 NSW teams competing it was great to see 3 reach the finals. The women's Vipers team (reigning 2010 Champions) went down in a tight match to Singapore 4-3 but the girls can be proud of their achievement and results. Both Newcastle and Glebe FBC (reigning 2010 Champions) went down in semi-finals to WA and Story Bridge (QLD) respectively in what could be perceived as there state sides.
While at the Australian Floorball Open in Sale Victoria last week a meeting was held between all the State Association Presidents (as well as NZ) and the President of the Australian Floorball Association to discuss what level of development each state is currently at and roles of State vs Australian association. At present NSWFA is the only state association whom has adopted a strategic plan and that plan is now being shared with all other associations.
I am pleased to report that NSWFA has made some excellent progress in the last few years and the development of floorball in NSW is strong and on track. A large amount of this success is due to the hard working committee, but also to some key people and regions whom are actively developing the sport.
NSWFA are very fortunately to have the hard work by all involved at Newcastle pay off with there ongoing social comp and representative elite series team. Central Coast has recently been hard at work developing the sport in which a social competition is now established and Wollongong is to follow for the Illawarra region. The guys at Dural still have a small social competition that is active for new players.
A main focus of discussion was development in general and seeking a paid resource with funding. While everyone recognised it takes time we all agreed the way forward and recognised that juniors and schools needs attention, however we cannot take our eye off all areas identified as balancing all the priorities is a difficult task with limited resources.
NSWFA still need a lot of help from its clubs and members but NSWFA can definitely be a Leader in Floorball Australia and as such we will undertake a role in leading the eastern seaboard (including NZ) to synergise and growth the sport.
Thanks to everyone for all your great help and support.

A note from Andy Fenton on Ange...
Unfortunately over the long weekend, Ange McCann (NSW women’s goal keeper) passed away.
I’m sure she will find all the peace and magic she deserves in what I have seen her become as a Floorball player. Without a doubt she will find a mystical cloud to set the boards on and plenty of angels to have shots at her.
Our thoughts are with all her family and friends at this time.
To the whole NSW Floorball community may I leave you with this thought: ‘Life, Love and Peace’ we sometimes take it for granted. Give a smile to someone everyday as they may not have anything to smile for it is free and so easily given yet never often enough, it is something we take for granted
Our smiles will always be with you Ange as you cheer us on from above…. |

NSWFA Launches the Strategic Plan
The vision for NSWFA is now locked in with the strategic plan being adopted at the AGM on Monday night.
The President commented that "it is with great pleasure that we launch this document to share with all NSWFA clubs, teams, players, etc the objectives for the next number of years. The simple goal is for NSWFA to become Leaders in Floorball Australia (LIFA) which we will refer to as the LIFA vision, each and every decision made will be referenced to the LIFA vision to ensure that floorball is developed and participation is increased across all of NSW".
